The Ontario Photonics Industry Network (OPIN) is inviting you to attend LIGHTSHIFT: LED Solutions Mean Business: a unique and exciting opportunity to explore LED (Light Emitting Diode) Signage.

This market transformative forum will discuss the technology, the market and energy saving benefits and will show you, though a series of case studies, how it can be done for your business or property. The program includes a Manufacturers Forum, a Panel Discussion on LED Market Transformation, including Standards and Legislation and the launch of PATHway (Providing Assistance & Technical Help) an assistance program to assist in the change to LED Signage.

  Peter Love
Ontario   ’s Chief Energy Conservation Officer

Peter Love was appointed Ontario ’s first Chief Energy Conservation Officer in April 2005 to head the Conservation Bureau, a division of the Ontario Power Authority, and is a member of the OPA senior management team.

The mandate of the Chief Energy Conservation Officer is to provide leadership in electricity conservation and demand management and advance a conservation culture in Ontario . This includes championing the value of conservation and the benefit of participating in conservation programs; acknowledging the contributions of individuals and organizations that embrace conservation throughout the province, and advocating for higher energy efficiency codes and standards and the appointment of Municipal Energy Conservation Officers (MECOs) in every Ontario community.

Mr. Love has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the area of energy efficiency. As the Executive Director of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance, he was a leading advocate for energy efficiency and its related benefits to the economy and the environment. In prior roles, he was responsible for managing the R-2000 and Energy Star Qualified New Homes programs. An active volunteer and community activist, Love has served on the National Advisory Committee on Energy Efficiency, and as the director of the Canadian Coalition on Acid Rain.

No stranger to the concept of a “cultural shift” in the Province, early in his career Mr. Love worked as a project coordinator for Pollution Probe with the team that developed the concept “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.

Mr. Love’s commitment to sustainable buildings and energy efficiency earned a Lifetime Achievement Award in October 2007 from Sustainable Buildings Canada . He received his MBA and BA from the University of Toronto.

Richard Kirk
CEO PolyPhotonix

Following a successful career as an artist living in Paris , with many of his works in national and public collections Richard moved into the advertising world in London .

It was while working for Bogle Bartle Hegarty, BBH the international advertising agency that Richard first realised the potential of EL technology for the design, art and industrial industries. He founded Elumin8 2001, which became the world’s foremost manufacturer of Electroluminescent (EL) technology. Elumin8 concentrated in equal measure on the Elumin8 Art Foundation and industrial applications. The Foundation was created to demonstrate the potential of the technology through art and design, a demonstration of Richard’s belief in the importance of these ideas.

Richard is now CEO of PolyPhotonix, a UK company manufacturing PLED devices for lighting, design and automotive applications. PolyPhotonix has a number of international partners and investors including CPI the Centre for Process and Innovation, and PETEC in the UK . He works with a number of academic institutions including Harvard (Project Lebone, ‘Lighting Africa’) and ENSCI in Paris and sits on a number of Advisory Boards and Steering Committees in Europe .  He is a consultant to UKDL  and PETEC in the UK .

Sameer Sodhi
General Manager LED Systems, Osram Sylvania Inc.

In his current role as General Manager of the LED Systems Business Unit at Osram Sylvania Inc Sameer is responsible for all aspects of operating the LED systems business for general illumination applications in North America . He has 14 years of experience in the lighting industry, ranging from electronic ballasts and LED power supplies to LED light sources. He has worked in engineering, product development, marketing and management roles over the past 14 years at Osram Sylvania and Motorola Lighting Inc.

Mr. Sodhi holds an MBA from Northwestern University , a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M, and a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi . He also holds 10 US patents.
